NATIONAL JOURNAL INTERVIEW WITH GREGGIE

Friday Feature
Greg Gutfeld is the host of FNC's "Red Eye." He joined FNC in '07. Prior to hosting "Red Eye," Gutfield served as editor in chief of Stuff magazine, Men's Health, and Maxim magazine in the UK from '04 to'06. He was born and raised in San Mateo, CA and is a graduate of UC Berkeley but today, he's our Friday Feature!

Where's your hometown? And what was it like growing up there?

My hometown is San Mateo, California. It's a delightful place to grow up. The Hillsdale Mall has a delicious food court, as well as my favorite store, Hot Topic. There is also a Bebes, a Chico's and a Forever 21. Sadly they closed the Chess King and Merry-Go-Round. When I am home visiting, I usually spend my time at the Build-A-Bear workshop, mainly to get fashion tips (currently cut-off overalls are in). Also, San Mateo is the home of Serra High School, where I went to school. If you stop by there, and tell them you know me, you will be escorted out.

What were you like freshman year of college?

I had long hair, was totally buffed and tan 24/7. I could bench press twice my own weight, and often did so at the local parks around midnight. I love working out in the middle of the night at local parks, and if society cannot accept it, that is not my problem.

What's your most embarrassing on-the-job moment? (Or as embarrassing as you'd like to reveal?).

It happened when I was the fitness editor of Prevention Magazine. In that, I was fitness editor of Prevention Magazine. Runner up: when I edited Men's Health, and wrote the coverlines "Lose your Ab's and "Find your Gut," when I clearly meant "Lose your gut" and "Find your abs." That mistake caused nearly a half million men to put on 35 pounds of flab in one summer month.

What is the most memorable commentary received from a superior?

"You are a tender lover."

What is your guilty pleasure song of the moment?

You know the one that goes "daaaaaaaaaa...ada...weeee...dadada..." That one. I can listen to that forever.

What's your favorite political book?

Definitely the "Sinister Signpost," which was a Hardy Boy's mystery. It all starts with a series of mysterious car accidents, but Frank and Joe uncover an important clue. Each driver saw a signpost marked 'Danger' right before the crashes. This slim tome explains the current economic situation we are in.

If your life was turned into a movie, which current movie would it be and who would play you?

Clearly it would be "The Kings Speech." I would be the King, and instead of a stutter, my disability would be "being way too awesome." I would not be played by Colin Firth, But Colin Hay from "Men At Work."

If you could have one super power to aid you in your job, what would it be?

Creating complex passwords that I easily remember the next day. I would also like to be visible and land-bound (Currently I am invisible and can fly).

If you could take a road trip with any current member of the Senate, who would it be and where will you be going?

I guess Mike Fisher. He's a Senator, so technically that answers the question, even if he's from Ottawa. Runner up: Mike Crapo and Bob Corker. For some reason they seem to go together. Our destination: my apartment. I would throw a fondue party ( I like fondue).

What's your favorite lunch meat?

Okay. I get it. What you're trying to is figure out my computer password by asking me basic but cryptic questions about my past. So let's cut to the chase: my password is SANMATEOSALAMI. There, time saved!

In one sentence, your best advice to young, fresh out-of-college journalists.

Learn to make things with your hands.

Finish this sentence: Today I ...

Answered a long questionnaire, in my underwear.
