Happy Bastille Day, France. Your hero's one of us.
Former France skipper Zinedine Zidane, who ended his career in disgrace after being sent off in the World Cup final for head butting Italian defender Marco Materazzi, has apologized for his outburst but says he has no regrets for doing so as Materazzi had insulted his mother and sister. "I would like to apologize because a lot of children were watching the match. I do apologize but I don't regret my behaviour because regretting it would mean he was right to say what he said."
A "disgrace"? A Frenchman finally stands up for what's right...and he gets treated like an American.
Also, I find it infuriating that this great athlete, who did nothing more than the correct thing in defending his mother, must now apologize to the "children."Tell me, who are these "children?" And why must we keep apologizing to them? Under no circumstance, should adults ever apologize to children, even if the "children" are really just French reporters, who - judging by the offending odor - aren't actually children at all but swarthy adult males in diapers that require regular changing. Zidane should head butt all of them.
