WHO IS KILLING THE 'WORLD'S OLDEST'?
This isn't a movie starring Jacqueline Bisset. No, this is dead serious.

Someone is killing the 'world's oldest'. Over the last couple weeks I noticed this, but I didn't want to sound the alarmist. But my conscience told me, I need to save the current oldest people, including 113-year old Edna Parker.

Asked what the difference is between people back then and now. "People were more friendly and worked together," Parker said. "There wasn't much fighting." Yeah, and they likely wouldn't kill you.

Edna's going to have to have some fancy moves to avoid the fate of America's previous oldest, Emma Faust Tillman -- who died just four days after becoming the world's oldest-known living person.

The Telegraph in London almost caught on but with the United Kingdom's strict libel laws fell short of spelling it out:

Shortest ever reign for world's oldest person

Think I'm being conspiratorial?

Witness the fate of Emiliano Mercado del Toro whose reign as the 'world's oldest' latest a mere month when he died on January 24.

In August I noticed something was awry when
Maria Esther de Capovilla of Ecuador inexplicably died at 116. She was then the reigning 'World's Oldest'.

Then her successor Elizabeth Bolden died at 116 in December.

Did I mention Bolden was a
daughter of freed slaves -- one of the few people who could have made a compelling argument for reparations? Emma Faust Tillman, who died a month later, too, was the daughter of slaves. But I digress.

Then who is
Julie Winnefred Bertrand? Other than dead, she was the 'world's oldest' when she died in Montreal in mid-January.

This eerie phenomenon appears to be expanding into sub-categories of intrigue. When in November of 2006 Gerald Ford took from Ronald Reagan the record as the "world oldest living president," Ford died less than a month later! Oldest --but not for long enough to reap the rewards (coupons, prestige, the ladies, etc.)

The cutthroat world of world records has always been considered dangerous. Let's not play naive. Even a hot dog eating hero knows he has to look over his shoulder. But rarely has the
Guinness competition turned so deadly.

All I can say at this point is, if you're
Yone Minagawa and you are reading this, please watch your back.
