Democrats blanket Mideast parties in search for peace

U.S. Senator John Kerry (-MA) said on Thursday the U.S. administration should talk to Syria and Iran. Kerry also told reporters in Cairo he believed U.S. policy in the Middle East was in trouble, partly because the United States had failed to listen to people in the region, including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran, who was attending a Holocaust denial conference after-party.

At the same time, Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) was in Damascus meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad who was wrapping up a post-assassination celebration for visiting Lebanese Hezbollah members.

Kerry cited Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's advice in 2002 that a U.S. invasion of Iraq would lead to disaster. "Frankly, more people should have listened to him," he said after talks with Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif. Kerry would have listened to him, himself, he said, but noted that George W. Bush had tricked him into plugging his ears.

Meanwhile Reuters has discovered a lost tribe of Americans who still believe in the war in Iraq despite the fact that the New York Times's former theatre critic announced last Sunday that the war had already been lost.
